Nine Questions with… MTG Horde

What first interested you in Magic (or even TCGs more generally)? Was there a moment, or did it happen more gradually?

I got into Magic through playing Dungeons and Dragons with a friend and his brother when I was about 14. My friends Dad was the DM and every time we played he would also give us some Magic Cards.

Similarly, what first got you interested and active in content creation? What keeps you interested?

I got back into MTG as a hobby with my wife. We keep it interesting together by exploring all the sets we missed and building fun decks with each other.

What’s your all-time favorite Magic card, and does it hold a personal story or significance for you?

My favorite card is Phantom Monster from the Fourth Edition. The art is incredible and it was the first card I ever received.

If you had to choose one Magic format to play forever, which would it be and why?

Kitchen Table Magic would be my play forever. It is relaxed and always so much fun.

Who are some creators or players in the Magic community that inspire you or you think deserve more recognition?

There are too many amazing folks in the MTG community that deserve all the recognition.

What’s your take on the current state of Magic: The Gathering—formats, new sets, or the community?

I dig on the current Magic formats they continue to make things interesting. The current sets are top tier. I love the latest ones Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Phyrexia All Will Be One, Bloomburrow, Duskmourn, and Wilds of Eldraine sets.

Have you ever had an epic Magic moment—like a top-deck win, an unexpected combo, or a perfect draft—that you’ll never forget?

I picked up 3 Phyrexia All Will Be One Set booster packs and on the first pack I got Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines which became my very first commander. That was the card I was hoping to find too.

What’s one Magic card or mechanic you think is underrated or doesn’t get the love it deserves?

I think Haste doesn’t get the love it deserves.

How has being part of the Magic: The Gathering community enriched your life, and what do you value most about it?

I’m new to the community but already I have met incredible folks that are passionate and support one another.
